Common Mistakes to Avoid When Backpacking

Backpacking Mistakes

Backpacking can be very exciting. If you love outdoor adventure, and you want to connect with nature, this is the best activity for you. However, if you’re not yet an expert in backpacking, or you have very little experience, you might commit these mistakes.

Booking your flight on the last minute

Booking your flight on the last minute

If you intend to go on a backpacking trip, you need to arrange your flight as early as possible. Some destinations are too popular, and you might find it difficult to get a flight during high season. It’s going to be frustrating when you couldn’t even come as your backpacking adventure because you didn’t manage to book a flight.

Packing a lot of things

You might think that you need to bring a lot of things with you since you’re away from the comfort of your home. However, you might forget that you will be walking long distances. It’s going to be physically demanding. If you have a heavy bag, it would be more difficult for you. Therefore, you need to pack the essentials, and leave the rest behind. If you have a campsite or a hotel room, you can keep some of your things there.

Drinking tap water

You must bring a bottle of water with you wherever you go. Backpacking can be exhausting, and you will always feel thirsty. If you don’t have a drinking water with you, you might end up drinking tap water. The problem is that you don’t know if it’s potable. If you don’t want to get poisoned, you need to avoid drinking tap water.

Hanging out with experts in backpacking

Some people have already tried going to different places via backpacking. If you think you can go with them even if you don’t have enough experience, you’re wrong. You need to get yourself used to it first by trying simpler trips. You will end up giving up when you up for a difficult adventure right away. You will also ruin the experience for everyone else because you keep complaining, or you have lots of issues.

Not saving enough money

It’s wrong to think that you’re going to save more money just because you opted for a backpacking experience. The truth is that you will still end up with a lot of expenses. It depends on how you manage your finances, and on your choices of food, accommodation, and transportation. It helps a lot if you research about your destinations first before you embark on a trip. You also need to determine how much you’re probably going to spend and bring enough money with you.

Hopefully, you don’t commit these mistakes. Otherwise, you won’t have a fun backpacking experience. You can also learn from the mistakes committed from your previous trips if you intend to go again on a different backpacking adventure. Once you have given it a try, you will feel enticed to do it over and over again. The trip is definitely worth it especially if you were with fun and adventure loving people.
