Experiencing a jet lag is common especially if you have been up in the air for several hours and you’re landing in a country which is of a different time zone. It might take a while before you can adjust with the new environment. For some people, it could even cause dizziness, fever and vomiting. If you don’t want to suffer from a jet lag, these are some tips to consider.

Adjust your internal clock
If you’re going to a place with a different time zone, you need to start adjusting your body. You need to eat, sleep and do your activities following the time zone of your destination. Once you landed, it will be a routine for you, and you won’t have to adjust.
Look for overnight flights
With overnight flights, you still have time to eat your dinner and sleep before heading to your destination. It’s easier for you to replicate your actual schedule when you arrive in the morning or afternoon.
Avoid coffee
Before your flight, you need to stop drinking coffee. Eating a lot is also not recommended. You might be awake because of coffee, but it will make you disoriented when you arrive. You will also have a hard time putting yourself to sleep.
Drink plenty of water
Being on air for several hours could lead to dehydration. Therefore, you need to drink plenty of water. You also need to pack moisturizing lotion, lip balm and hydrating spray. If you have essential oils that you can spray on your face for relaxation, they would help a lot. As long as you bring the exact amount and it is in compliance with airport security policies, it’s good enough.
Don’t drink alcohol during the flight
Even if you’re tempted to drink alcohol during a long flight, you need to limit it. You might feel relaxed while flying, but it could affect you once you arrive. Like coffee, alcohol could have the same impact on you.
Sleep on the plane
For people who hate flying, sleeping on the plane isn’t an easy task. However, if you’re flying a long distance, you need to force yourself to sleep no matter how difficult it is. Find a way to make you feel comfortable. Bring a pillow or recline your seats. Ask for a sleeping mask and a blanket. Put on some relaxing music. You can also take sleeping pills, but you need to have the right dosage. Ask your doctor about it too. Otherwise, you will be groggy when you land.
Go outside
As soon as you land, you need to expose yourself to as much sunlight as possible. It helps reset your natural time and allow it to adjust to the new surroundings. Avoid physical activities for a while though. Once you already adjusted and you feel relaxed, you can go ahead with your next activities for the day.
