Interesting Facts You Need to Know in Booking Low Cost Airline Tickets
The increase in demand for low cost air tickets has paved the way for the rise of budget airlines. In fact, several major airlines have already started a low cost counterpart to cater to the needs of those who are on a tight budget. If you have not flown one before and if you are interested to go for it now, here are some of the most important facts you need to know.
You would have to pay for the luggage weight
Usually, major airlines provide a standard weight limit depending on your destination. For low cost airlines, the luggage weight has to be purchased separately. The good thing about this is that you can customize the weight depending on how long you are traveling. In fact, if it is a very short trip, you can just have a carry-on luggage of 7 kilograms and not check-in anything at all. Therefore, you need to decide how much you need before you even book the ticket.
There’s usually no free food and drink
You might be used to major airlines providing free meals onboard. This is not the case for most low cost airlines. You can buy one though as they are selling foods and drinks online. The only down side is that the prices are all blown up. The best option is to bring your own snacks and drinks. Better yet, you just have to wait until landing before you buy one. This is true especially if the flight is just for an hour or two.
Print your ticket
Most airlines today would only require your passport or identification card at the counter to give you a boarding pass. This might not be the case for some low cost airlines. You would have to print the ticket as evidence that you are a passenger of that particular flight. You can check in advance if it is required of all passengers or not.
You might have to travel to a different airport
Most low cost airlines don’t have flights to major destinations, especially if they are a partner of a major airline. They usually have flights in a nearby city though. If you can land in that city and just take a bus or train to the actual destination, go for it if it does not cost a lot. It pays to always take a look at the name of the airport on your ticket. Sometimes, there is a flight on a major city, but at a different airport.
Don’t expect a lot from the airline
Usually, low cost airlines are just basic planes. You will have a seat and some magazines to read, and that’s it. There are no in-flight entertainment systems. You might not even have enough leg room as the seats are too close to each other. There are also not so many services that you can request. There are available items for sale though, even duty free products.
For short flights and as long as you are willing to make certain sacrifices, there is nothing wrong with low cost airlines. The most important thing is that you will be carried safely to your destination.
