Tips for Couples in a Long-distance Relationship

LDR

Being in a long-distance relationship isn’t easy. Distance could complicate your relationship. It’s even the reason why several relationships end. The lack of constant communication and presence led to the failure of the relationship to survive. If you decided to pursue a relationship with someone who isn’t close to you, these are some tips to guarantee that you will stay together for a long time.

Set a schedule to communicate with each other

Set a schedule to communicate with each other

Make sure that you find time to talk to each other. It doesn’t matter how busy you are with work or other things; you have to find time. Consistency is key. When you start to lose communication, it will keep on getting worse. Before you know it, you’re no longer talking to each other as often as you used to.

Be expressive

You have to show to your partner how big your love is. You don’t have a physical contact due to the distance. Therefore, you have to make it up by saying the best words. Always say your I love you’s even if it sounds repetitive. It’s the only way to make your partner feel that you care, and you have an undying love.

Plan a trip to see each other

You need to make it a point that you see each other as often as possible. Yes, it’s expensive due to the flight costs and other fees, but you already knew it before you entered the relationship. Therefore, you have to be willing to spend just to see your partner. You have to make an effort since being physically together is still a crucial component of your relationship.

Don’t leave space for fights

You already face a major obstacle- distance. You can’t complicate things even more by fighting over unnecessary stuff. Yes, it’s normal for most couples to fight. The good thing is that they’re together, and they have means of resolving issues right away. You don’t have that privilege because you’re far apart. Since you don’t see each other, there are lots of rooms for miscommunications and misunderstandings. You don’t want small fights to turn into something big and potentially end your relationship. As soon as you meet a bump, you have to talk about it.

Create long-term plans

You’re far from each other now, but you can’t stay that way forever. At some point, you need to be together. Regardless of the reason why you’re apart, you have to find a way to end it. One of you has to sacrifice and move, or both of you decide to try your luck elsewhere. The goal is to be together. If you can’t see being together in the future, you might be with the wrong person. If you love your job more than your partner, you have to rethink your relationship. You can’t force yourself to stay just because you’ve been together for some time. Distance needs to be a temporary issue. If you can’t work on being together at some point in the future, it won’t be worth it.
